Criminal Law Section

No area of the law is more intriguing, demanding, or serious than criminal law. The decisions in criminal cases dramatically affect lives and future generations.

Amidst the historic relocation of an entire criminal justice complex in Detroit, there is no more urgent time for communication and collaboration between the Bench and Bar.

Criminal matters are heard in numerous courts in Southeastern Michigan, including three circuit courts, numerous district courts, and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

The Judges, Defense Attorneys and Prosecutors in the Third Circuit Court’s Criminal Division, Michigan’s busiest and only specialized criminal court, handle the vast majority of the most serious criminal cases in the state.

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, like its state and local counterparts, boasts some of the finest criminal practitioners in the country.

A new Criminal Law Section of the Detroit Bar Association will serve as a forum for open dialogue about areas of common concern, including the relocation to the new criminal justice complex. The Section can also serve as a conduit for circulating vital information about reforms, rules, policies, and procedures within the criminal courts located in Wayne County.
