Law Day is a nationwide celebration of the rule of law, in recognition of how law and the legal process contribute to the freedoms that all Americans share. For the third consecutive year, the Detroit Bar Association and the Third Judicial Circuit Court present this special program for Detroit high school students from over a dozen public, private and charter schools.
Law Day presents a unique opportunity for students to interact with judges and attorneys and learn more about legal careers. Students are invited to participate in an essay contest, scholarship contest, and mock oral arguments before members of the Third Circuit bench.
Attorney volunteers are essential to Law Day’s success. Attorneys are needed to review and score essays submitted through the essay contest, as well as to coach students prior to presenting mock oral arguments before the guest judges. Following arguments, volunteer attorneys, judges, and court staff will have lunch with participating students and discuss the particulars of their profession.
