Organization Overview:
Lakeshore Legal Aid serves people living with low income, older adults, and survivors of domestic violence
and sexual assault in a holistic manner to address clients’ legal issues and improve our communities. Lakeshore provides free, direct legal representation in southeast Michigan and the thumb and client intake, advice, and brief legal services throughout Michigan via our attorney-staffed hotline. Our practice areas include housing, family, consumer, elder, education, and public benefits law.
Position Overview:
Lakeshore Legal Aid is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as Director of Litigation. This position will oversee the leadership of attorney-staffed across multiple litigation offices while advancing Lakeshore’s mission and prepare staff to serve clients throughout its diverse communities. The Director of Litigation primary responsibilities include:
• Developing and implementing litigation management systems;
• Overseeing in daily supervision of Supervising Attorneys in evaluating work of advocacy staff, conduct case reviews, review advocate caseloads and closing cases to ensure quality, quantity, priorities, and compliance with the Legal Service Corporation;
• Supporting staff development efforts and mentoring with litigation planning and case strategy;
• Driving in identifying and resolving systemic legal issues affecting clients through helping fashion effective approaches to their solution or ameliorating through litigation, advocacy, community legal education and/or other tools;
• Guiding Supervising Attorneys with management of staff and working closely with Employee Relations regarding personnel issues and recruitment;
• Assisting in grant reporting by reviewing and analyzing data, as well as drafting narratives for grant reports;
• Managing and overseeing outreaches with community partners;
• Consulting Compliance Director to monitor and ensure that staff advocacy meets funder requirements;
• Participates in case acceptance meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Juris Doctor.
• Admission to Michigan Bar (or ability to be admitted through reciprocity).
• Demonstrated commitment to public interest work or pro bono work.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organize, plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Flexibility.

Salary
The salary range for this position begins at $105,000 annually.
