Details
Wayne Law’s Legal Research and Writing Department is seeking volunteer judges for the first-year oral argument program. Oral arguments will be held between March 19 and April 7 as part of their Legal Research and Writing course.
Please note all arguments will be in-person except for those volunteers signing up for Professor Kathy Day’s students. Professor Day’s arguments will be over Zoom.
The success of the program depends largely on the involvement of local attorneys and judges. Your role is to sit as part of a three-judge panel as the students present their arguments.
After registration, you will be sent more information directly from the professor for which you are volunteering.

Attorneys, we need you!
The need for pro bono legal support for unaccompanied children has never been more urgent. On March 21, 2025, the Trump administration cut funding for the Unaccompanied Children Program, affecting legal representation of over 800 cases at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC). As deportations are fast-tracked, due process is under direct threat for some of the most vulnerable children in our immigration system.
I’m an attorney. How can I help?
Join MIRC Director Susan Reed and Pro Bono Managing Attorney Tania Morris Diaz for a roundtable to discuss how you can take on pro bono cases and stand up for these children.
– Thursday, April 10, 2025
– 12:00 PM ET
– Register with this LINK / or email us at mirc-pro-bono@michiganimmigrant.orgWe also invite you to fill out this brief survey if you are willing to provide legal support for unaccompanied children’s cases.
Please share this with your colleagues and legal networks—every attorney willing to help makes a difference.
Thank you for standing with us in this critical moment.
