Michigan Children’s Law Center (MCLC) is a nonprofit law firm that represents children in the Wayne County Juvenile Court. We are seeking pro bono volunteers to represent our clients in various matters. All attorneys licensed to practice in Michigan are qualified to participate.
MCLC is looking for volunteer attorneys to assist the clients listed below in their AWOL matters. These cases involve foster children who have left their court-ordered placements without permission.
Volunteer Training and Support: MCLC offers one-on-one support and will attend the first hearing with the volunteer.
Time Commitment: Average time commitment is 10 hours per month (2 hours per week). Approximation of time commitment is as follows: Reviewing AWOL report=15 minutes, 1-2 hr(s) for virtual hearing (multiple cases are heard within this timeframe), follow up communication with the assigned attorney via email=10-15 minutes. Please note: MCLC does not have AWOL cases every week so time commitment is sometimes less than 10 hours per month.
Volunteers would need to pass the 3rd Circuit Court background check in order to participate.
