Comparing Hair Transplant Costs: What to Check Before You Decide
When you start comparing hair transplant costs in the UK and overseas, the headline prices only tell part of the story. What a price includes, who carries out your care and what happens after surgery all affect the value you get. This guide looks at the questions worth asking before you decide.
What a UK price includes
My Hair UK prices are fixed by graft band and agreed in advance:
- Up to 500 grafts: £2,499
- Up to 1,000 grafts: £2,899
- Up to 1,500 grafts: £3,299
- Up to 2,000 grafts: £3,699
- Up to 2,500 grafts: £4,099
- Up to 3,000 grafts: £4,499
- Up to 3,500 grafts: £4,899
- Beard or eyebrow transplant: £2,899
The price includes a free consultation with your named GMC-registered surgeon, the procedure, all post-transplant medication and aftercare: a patient portal with instructional videos from your surgeon, monthly check-ins while the hair grows, and free follow-up appointments with your surgeon at 6 and 12 months. A 50% booking fee secures your date and the balance is paid on the day.
Regulation and continuity of care
My Hair UK arranges treatment at the Manchester clinic and the London clinic in Harrow, both registered with the Care Quality Commission; the London clinic in Harrow is rated Good. Having treatment close to home means your follow-up appointments are in person, with the same surgical team, and any concern during healing can be seen quickly.
Wherever you choose to have treatment, it is worth getting the follow-up plan in writing: when you will be seen, by whom, and what happens if you have a problem such as infection or slow growth after you get home.
Technique and patient selection matter more than price
Published evidence shows that hair transplantation is effective when the technique is sound and the patient is suitable. A 2024 study found that hair transplantation could successfully improve unnatural-looking hairlines, with careful technique and patient selection key to the result. Price alone tells you little about graft survival, density or satisfaction.
Check your health first
A hair transplant is minor surgery, but it is still a medical procedure. Before going ahead, see your GP for a review of your general health and hair loss, any blood tests they think are needed, and a check for scalp conditions. This makes sure you are fit for surgery and any underlying problem is treated first. Your GP can also help you think about factors such as stress or lifestyle habits that can affect recovery.
Communication and access to your surgeon
You should be able to discuss your goals clearly with surgeons trained to UK standards, and know you can be seen again if healing stalls or grafts do not grow as expected. Travel insurance rarely covers complications after cosmetic surgery, so it is worth knowing in advance how follow-up care would be provided and paid for.
Questions to ask any provider
- What does the quoted price include, before and after surgery?
- Will I meet my surgeon before the day, and who carries out each part of the procedure?
- How easy is it to see the surgical team after I get home?
- What happens if there is an unexpected complication?
- Can I see before and after photos and independent patient reviews?
On that last point, My Hair UK's independent patient reviews give it a rating of 4.95 out of 5 on reviews.io.
Making your decision
In the end, the decision rests on more than the price. It comes down to what you value most: cost, convenience, clinical reassurance and long-term follow-up. Taking time to compare like with like will help you choose the option that is right for your hair and your wellbeing.
