About the DMBA

President's Welcome

The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association (DMBA) was established in 1836 by a group of prominent Detroit area attorneys. Its stated purpose was to create a forum that would allow lawyers and judges to improve the administration and quality of justice in their community through education, dialogue, and community activities. The DMBA currently serves the legal community of Southeastern Michigan by providing services, products, and information essential to the successful, ethical practice of law.

The DMBA sponsors numerous programs and events, including the Detroit Legal Services Clinic and Volunteer Lawyer Program, the Detroit Lawyer Referral Information Service, the 36th District Court Case Evaluation Service, the Third Judicial Circuit Court Attorney Resource Center and many other programs.

By providing business support, opportunities for research and continued education, as well as a forum for legal community service, membership in the DMBA is a key element in the success of lawyers and law firms within the Southeastern Michigan area.

We are very excited about the future of the DMBA and I am proud to be the President of an organization that has served the lawyers, judges and citizens of Wayne County for over 170 years.

Douglas D. Hampton,
President
