Welcome to the temporary online home of the Detroit

Metropolitan Bar Association.

Our new website is in the final stages of construction, and

will feature simpler navigation and enhanced member

self-management features.

Until its launch, however, we want this site to provide key information about our upcoming events and on-going

programs.

The DMBA Foundation

The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation is a recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Its mission is:

  • To improve and facilitate the administration of justice in the Detroit Metropolitan region and throughout the State of Michigan
  • To facilitate programs that help meet the legal needs of the under-served community in the Detroit Metropolitan area and to insure to the fullest extent possible that legal services are made available to all members of the public without regard to race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, veteran status or economic circumstances and without regard to any additional characteristic that may, from time to time, be protected from discrimination by law
  • To provide educational opportunities for the public regarding their legal rights and responsibilities as well as other subjects related to the law and justice system, and
  • To foster and maintain the reputation, honor and integrity of the profession of law

Among the programs conducted by the Foundation are the Detroit Legal Services Clinic, the Pro Bono Mentorship Program (with the Thomas M. Cooley Law School), the School Partnership Program (with the DMBA Barristers Section) and the For the Seventh Generation Program.

The Dennis W. Archer Award for Public Service

Each year, the DMBA Foundation presents the Archer Award to recognize outstanding public service by a member of the legal profession focusing on the metropolitan Detroit community. It is given to individuals who have established a career dedicated to the betterment of, not only our profession, but also our community.

This year's honoree is Maura Corrigan, Director of the Michigan Department of Human Services and former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to public service and the welfare of Michigan's families and children.

Registration is now available for the January 26 event, and sponsorship opportunities are available.  For more information, contact Lorraine Weber at 313-961-6120 x206 or lweber@detroitlawyer.org.
